Bulk Food Storage Container Tips
People normally do bulk food storage when they get products at a lower value on sale. Buying in bulks also helps in saving money and the repeated visits to the store. The biggest problem one faces while storing bulk products are to preserve the nutritional value of the product, from pests and from change in weather.
Generally people who have a warehouse buy in bulks as it turns out to be cheaper when they sell it in single lot. We should always remember a few points before going for bulk storage. Ample storage space is required to store the products. You should have a variety of bulk food storage containers on hand. Large containers should contain the whole amount of product and for day today usage a smaller portion is kept in small containers.
Bulk products when purchased should be brought to the place of storage through proper transportation. Good labeling should be done on both the large and small containers so that they may be easy to locate. A record should also be kept of the products that are going to be finished from the large containers in a few days. This should be done so that before it is completely over it should be replenished. The purchase date and the expiry date of each and every product should be neatly written. It is important to note that the product should be used u before the expiry date or else there is no profit in storing bulk products.
Few products need to be stored in a cold storage. Care should be taken to maintain the temperature of the freezer or the area where the products are stored. Always use disposable gloves when handling raw meat or poultry or fish products. Hygienic condition should be maintained so that pest and other insects do not destroy the products. From my personal use I can say I always fry semolina before storing it in container, as it remains free of pest for many months. Sugar should always be kept in airtight containers.
